Description

Whitworth Park is centrally located on the University of Manchester campus, close to sports centre, libraries and Students Union.  It comprises of eight low-rise houses containing one to three storey flats for groups of seven, eight or nine students. Accommodation is in single study bedrooms, with shared kitchen, lounge and bathroom in each flat.  Grove House houses the administrative and social centre of the community. Facilities include two squash courts, launderette, bar, gym and large dance hall.

Arriving at the Halls: Reception is open Monday to Friday, from 1000 hours to 1800 hours. Guests can check in from 10:00 hours. Early arrivals will not be accepted unless prior arrangements have been made. Arrivals after 2200 hours must also be arranged in advance.

 

If arriving on a Saturday:

Reception will be closed. Guests arriving on Saturday should contact the Residential Life Advisor (RLA) on arrival at the Halls. You will find the mobile number on the door to the reception. The RLA will give you the key and direct you to your accommodation. Kindly note that guests can check in between 1000 hours and 2200 hours. Early arrivals will not be accepted unless prior arrangements have been made. Arrivals after 2200 hours must also be arranged in advance.

 

If arriving on a Sunday:

Reception will be open between 1400 hours and 1800 hours. All arrivals outside these hours will need to contact the Residential Life Advisor (RLA) on arrival at the Halls. The Residential Life Team (ResLife) are present to help you during your time here at Whitworth Park . Members of the team are assigned to each of the flats and blocks and you will meet your Flat Advisor within the first few days after arriving at the residence. We are here to help with any questions or problems relating to your accommodation and general living situation, promote Health and Safety awareness and also to help maintain some order and discipline so that everyone can enjoy a comfortable and pleasant environment in which to live, relax and of course to study. Your Flat Residential Life Advisor (RLA) will be your primary contact during your time at Whitworth Park and will visit your flat regularly to check things are going ok and to pass on important information. For urgent or emergency issues, you can also contact the Duty RLA between 6pm – 8am Monday-Friday and all day at weekends on 07774 995351 (Burleigh, Garstang, Leamington and Thorncliffe Houses) or 07789 480917 (Aberdeen, Acomb, Derby and Dilworth Houses).

 

All delegates will need to provide proof of booking on arrival. Kindly note that keys will not be issued without the correct paperwork.

Parking: There is limited on-site parking which is available on a first-come-first-served basis. We are unable to reserve spaces. There is also road side parking available around the campus.

Reception is located in Grove House at the entrance to Whitworth Park and is open 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday. This can change at times so keep any eye open for emails or posters keeping you in touch.

 

Finding your way to Whitworth Park

By Air : Manchester Airport is approximately 12 miles to the south of the city; a taxi typically costs around £15 – £20 to the hall. Buses and rail shuttle services also run into Manchester.

By Car : Manchester is situated in the heart of the North West of England and has superb road networks into the city centre.

By Coach : Whitworth Park is approximately 25 minutes’ walk from the coach station at Chorlton Street.

By Rail :Piccadilly station and Oxford Road Station are located nearby.

 

Whitworth Park

Whitworth Park is centrally located on the University of Manchester main campus, close to sports facilities, libraries, shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and the Students Union.

It comprises of eight low-rise houses – Aberdeen, Garstang, Acomb, Derby, Dilworth, Leamington, Burleigh and Thorncliffe. These contain one to three storey flats for groups of seven, eight or nine students. Accommodation is in single study bedrooms, with shared kitchen, lounge and bathroom facilities in each flat. Whitworth Park is self-catering accommodation.

Whitworth Park also offers squash courts, gym, launderette facilities and an on-site bar.

 

Internet and WiFi

In some communal areas in University of Manchester halls of residence there are University access points for wireless. These will always show up as University when your computer scans for local Wi-Fi. You can use these to connect to the Internet. Students are prohibited from setting up their own wireless access points in hall. Please note Wi-Fi access can be limited, however all bedrooms do have wired access to the Ethernet – for more information on this service consult the HORNET pages

 

What do I need to Bring ?

In your room we provide a bed, desk, desk chair, lamp, wardrobe and chest of drawers. You will need to bring with you bed linen, duvet, pillows and towels. As the residence is self-catered we provide an oven, hob, fridge, freezer, kettle and microwave in each flat. You should arrange to bring with you any cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and pans you may require. A word of advice is to wait until you arrive to see if you can arrange to purchase these with your new flat mates so you don’t end up with large quantities of the same item ! Bedding packs are available to purchase from reception subject to availability or you can pre order them from our on-line store.

 

Key Collection

During the online induction process you will be asked to book an arrival slot (September arrival only), if you need to come earlier than the official contract start date shown on your offer, you can book and pay for extra nights’accommodation by contacting reception or book via our on-line store. Rooms will be allocated subject to availability and are not guaranteed.

 

Room keys will be available from Grove House between 10:00 – 18:00 hour (please arrive according to your time slot) on your chosen arrival date. If you arrive outside of these hours, please use the yellow security phone located opposite the main entrance to Grove House this will connect you with someone who can assist you. Please remember to bring with you the key release form (this is printable at the completion of your online induction) and some photographic ID.

 

If you will be arriving later than your contract start date, please do contact us to let us know when to expect you.

 

If you lose your key / fob / swipe card at any time during your stay at Whitworth Park, please let us know immediately. There is a charge for replacements, although if you later find them within 7 days of reporting them lost your money will be refunded.
